Mickey Mouse Barbeque!

I love Tablescape Thursday! I'm joining Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for a bunch of summer table fun. Be sure to check out the other great tables here.

I know everyone is working hard to celebrate the Fourth of July with their tablescapes. However, since I did a Memorial Day table in Red, White and Blue, I decided to do a picnic outside before the weather got too hot. My guest of honor for this table is Mickey Mouse!
We bought these plates, bowls, corn cob holders, and plasticware two summers ago on clearance at the Disney Store. Daughter was working there at the time.
The blue napkins are current Walmart, 2 for $2. The cups are Dollar Tree, but they were out when I went to replace the one that broke. And we have two stores! The plaid tablecloth and napkins are Target from about 5 years ago.

The corn cob holders are in 4 different designs; florals and stripes and plaids.

The long shot shows a little more of the covered patio. It is at the back of the small lot the house stands on. I decided to go all white and purple with the flowers this year. They don't offer too much variety in our Home Depot so I think next year I will have to buy seeds and start from "scratch".
Thanks for stopping by and joining me and Mickey for a BBQ!

Farmers' Market

Tuesday evening is Farmers' Market Night here in Manteca. Usually it is not so great an event. There always seems to be more commercial tables than farm products. You know, Tupperware, Real Estate, Karmelcorn, etc.

However, tonight there was an abundance of vegetables and blackberries, strawberries and raspberries, peaches, pluots etc. I love the berries but I think we will try picking our own soon to save on the price.

The squash we purchased were only $1 a pound. Couldn't get a picture on the table because people were crowding in.

Thanks for checking out the produce.

Vacation-Bible School, That Is!

I've been absent from blogging this week as I have been "directing" Vacation Bible School at my church. We've had a great turnout and lots of fun.

Our material comes from http://www2.lifeway.com/vbs2010/yourvbs/?cid=RDR-vbs2010
It's as exhausting week and I will definitely take it easy next week.

Girly Pink Tablescape

I love playing with my dishes! Husband and I bought this set of Johnson Bros. dishes at a garage sale last fall for around $30. It is a complete set for eight. I thought I had put a tablescape together using them, but when I was recently going back through my posts, I realized I hadn't.

So for Tablescape Thursday, I went all out with the pink rose theme. Husband said it's a girly table. Well, aren't most of them? When your dishes are pink and roses...

I've used the rose flatware before and the tablecloth. The napkins are KMart clearance from two summers ago. Husband and I ran out to get pink roses for the centerpiece but we found these wonderful peonies instead. My mom had peonies in the yard when I was little, but we never brought any in. Strange.

We found these glasses at an estate sale last Saturday. There are three sizes, twelve each. You'll see more of those another day.

Thanks for stopping by and being girly with me. Make sure you jump over to Between Naps on the Porch for other great tables.

Strawberry Shortcake

I know that every state thinks their strawberries are the best. I would never argue that fact. However, we have found a strawberry farm stand just down the road from our neighborhood. They have the freshest big berries and never put those tiny hard ones in the baskets. We have been buying strawberries from them for about 15 years.

I found a pound cake recipe here.

Strawberries have never been my favorite. (I'll tell you why: when I was 14 my first job was picking strawberries. I bit into one strawberry and it had a bug in it. EEwwwwww!!! I won't eat one that hasn't been washed and cut. Just not my flavor.) But these were too good to resist. And with a little vanilla bean ice cream, yum!
