Mad Hatter Tea Party

I'm joining Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for Tablescape Thursday. Make sure you jump over there to check out the other inspiring tables.

In honor of the new Alice in Wonderland movie by Tim Burton, starring Johnny Depp, I chose to do a Mad Hatter Tea Table.

All quotes are from Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll.

The table was a large one, but the three were all crowded together at one corner or it.


"It's always tea-time," said the Hatter with a sigh: "it's always tea-time, and we've no time to the the things between whiles."
"Then you keep moving round, I suppose?" said Alice.


The teacups and all the china were bought at garage sales or second hand stores. The print table cloths are fabric from my stash.




The large "March Hare" is from Pier 1.


The teapots were all gifts over the years from my mother.




The bunny salt and pepper are also from Pier 1.

Spring Cleaning

A week or so ago I suddenly got the urge to clean. It could have had a lot to do with splurging on new towels and needing to purge the old ones. It has been 5 1/2 years since we got new towels.



Closet emptied out. Like most of us I get into a job before I decide "wouldn't this be great to blog about" and don't end up with a before. Oh well.

This stack of old towels and sheets will be going to Goodwill. The towels that were too worn out ended up in the laundry room for drying off the wet dog in winter and the newly washed cars in the summer.



Here is the after, all nicely organized.



And of course the laundry room needed organizing to accomodate the extra "dog" towels.




So there you have it. Mini spring cleaning.

St. Patrick's Day Tablescape

I've been working on two tablescapes this week but the sceond isn't finished yet. Of course that one is the one I wanted to post, but oh well! I'm linking in to Tablescape Thursday on Susan's Between Naps on the Porch. Please visit her to see all the other wonderful table settings. Such inspiration.

It's still a few weeks away but we found these cute St. Patrick's Day placemats and napkins at TJ Maxx last week and I couldn't wait to put together a tablescape with them.



I love the way the green looks against the black table.



All the rest of the plates, chargers, etc. I had already. I've used them in other tablescapes.












The little pot-of-gold is a pot from Tanzania, and the "gold" consists of coins that Husband has brought back in his pockets from his mission trips around the world.



Rerun always shows up when someone is in the kitchen.






I changed the votive holder at the last minute. I wasn't sure which one I liked best.

Finials

Today I feel like showing off some of my favorite items. I've linked up with Cindy at My Romantic Home for Show and Tell Friday.

This is a pair of finials that we purchased in Beirut, Lebanon. The church across the street from our flat was remodelling, it was only 100 years old. These were on the corners of the entry gate. Each one weighs about 100 lbs. We paid 5000 Lebanese Lira for them (about $2.50). I have them in my family room.

World Traveler Table

I've linked up with Susan at Between Naps on the Porch.

I decided to create a World Traveler table this week for Tablescape Thursday. We lived overseas for two and a half years and Husband still travels around the world on his job. We picked up many things over the years and I wanted to showcase a few.



The brown tablecloth is from Damascus, Syria. The Anubis statues were purchased in Egypt.



The globe, on the other hand, we found at an Estate Sale last November. The plates are from a garage sale as well. We bought them for our son for his first apartment. I wanted to showcase them even though they are basic.



The silverware was a hand-me-down from my Mother-in-law. All the silver pieces were purchased at garage sales, for no more than $5 or $10 each.

















I hope you enjoyed the table. I may just have to invite a few people over for a meal and good conversation.
