Beachy Bedroom Finale

Last fall we redid our daughters bedroom, updating the color and making it into a beach retreat. You can see that here

Since then we put a different quilt on the bed and got some super feather throw pillows. I got these for $15.00 for the pair at TJ Maxx. They are great because you can squish them up while reading a book late at night and then they plump back to their original form. Not like fiberfill pillows and others.

On the shelf are the covered books I won in a give-away from Perfectly Imperfect. I love the way they turned out. Shaunna was super about emailing to customize the books to match the room. I've become a fan of Shaunna's and love to see what she's up to in crafts and furniture refinishing. Check out her blog to see what she's doing currently.
The mirror is a little beauty that Husband picked up at a garage sale, in a funky brown wood color. He spray painted it and Daughter loved it! I may still put a little gold highlighting on the flowers. Maybe not, I don't know.
Hope you enjoyed the finished look in Daughter's room. Next week I'll try an update on Son's room. We went beachy stripes there!

Easter Table

Happy Thursday! It's another Tablescape Thursday with Susan at Between Naps on the Porch. Check out all the other great tablescapes.

Beautiful spring days here in Northern California. It's been fun trying out an Easter table with brightly designed China. This is "Just Flowers" by Mikasa. We bought this set at an estate sale for $45. It isn't complete, of course, only 5 bowls to go with 8 plates. But it is cute and not pink like the other china I have.

Spartacus had to have a birds eye view of the goings on.

I used white napkins and combined it with a fat quarter of fabric from my quilting stash. They are tied with gold ribbon. The placemats are 25 cent clearance from after Christmas at Target.

The roses are from my yard. Already blooming even after a serious pruning in January.

Thank you for seeing what I've done for Easter. I am actually going to use this table setting! First I'll have to wash all the dishes. I didn't wash them after bringing them home, and they'll have a thin layer of dust in two weeks. Farm country!

Happy spring!

Bedroom-Part 2

I'm linking in with Met Monday at Between Naps on the Porch.

The other day I posted photos of my bedroom here as is normally appears. However, for spring I always get tired of the heavy look. I get out my pink and green quilt that I made many years ago.

And yes, I handquilted it. I don't hand quilt anymore as arthritis affects my fingers pretty badly.

I took all the "scarves" off of the dresser and side tables to give it a lighter look as well.

The throw pillows are wrapped in single yards of fabric. I changed the sheets from the dark brown ones to creme.

If you look closely, you will see that the bed is up on blocks. A little red-neck, I know. But the bed needed height, and those cute bed riser things weren't available anywhere.

Thank you for looking in on me today. Hope you all have a great week!

Bedroom-Part 1

I thought I would share my bedroom.

I love all the creamy white, cottagy style rooms I see in blogland, but thats not how we decorated when we moved home from the Middle East 5 1/2 years ago. We wanted to display husbands sword collection. We bought a stencil and made the walls into crumbling castle walls.

The furniture was given to us and we painted it black and distressed it. Of course this was years ago before I discovered all the blogs. A friend helped us with the painting and we did it right! Stripping, priming with a rust color, 2 coats of black (called Dark Secret, I love that), distressed, rubbed with carnuba wax. The tops were stained and varathaned.

But today I went through and changed all the bedding out for a spring look. I'll be posting that Monday for Met Monday.

Thanks for stopping by and see you on Monday.

Mad Hatter Dessert Buffet

I'm joining Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for Tablescape Thursday. Please jump over there and check out all the other cute and clever tables that are posted. So much inspiration all in one place. Thank you Susan!

Saturday we hosted an open house. I rearranged the Mad Hatter Tea Party into a Mad Hatter Dessert Buffet.

Husband surprised me by ordering The Official Disney Mad Hatter hat. It arrived in time for the dessert buffet. It really is cute and really finishes the table.

Lemon squares, fudge, oatmeal and peanut butter cookies and cupcakes. I baked a whole new bunch of cupcakes in both yellow and carrot cakes.

Thanks for visiting once again. I enjoy putting these tables together.

Spring next week!

Etsy Shop! Aprons

I have been fascinated with aprons lately. It started last December when I was teaching the high school students how to sew. They always get to start with an apron pattern that is super simple but makes a great BBQ style apron. It is such a feeling of accomplishment.

But I wanted to make girly aprons so I found a pattern with a cute flounce. Then I decided it was too complicated to keep making and created my own pattern for an apron with a ruffle.

This is the one with the ruffle. Extra long ties. And Daughter modelling!

This apron has magnolias on a super dark navy background. The white has little gold flecks all over it.

Monet style print with purple accents.

This apron has a cute green plaid and the orange print is a reprint of a feedsack from the 1930's. I love this. So June Cleaver! Daughter's BFF modelling here. She stays with us Monday through Thursday while she is going to school, her family moved away a few years ago and her school is near us. Saves on gas! Daughter lives in a dorm at Fresno State.
The next two aprons are the flounce apron. I picked retro yet modern prints for these. Neither has a pocket but each has a flower pin. So cute!

I decided to open an etsy shop to sell a few, and so I can make more! I'm working on a few simple BBQ style aprons now, but still girly. I'm working on a few half aprons as well. Cute combos of prints!

So check out my shop at www.dazeofgrace.etsy.com

Thanks so much for stopping by.
