Alice in Wonderland Bridal Shower

Welcome to the Bridal Shower! The theme was Allison in Wonderland!
My daughter is the "matron of honor" for her best friend who is marrying Daughter's brother, my son.
Daughter wanted to have the shower at our house because we are more on the crossroads of both families involved.
The sign post points to the garden. (if you look closely you will notice some of the bride and groom's favorite real and literary places.)

The "Down the Rabbit Hole" sign is an old window with chalkboard paint on the glass.

Advice, both best and worst, for the bride.

Goodies for the guests to take home.

I made all the aprons and Daughter painted the white rabbit apron and embroidered the names on our Tweedledee and Tweedledum aprons.  She has been getting more and more clever and crafty since being married.

Scones and quiches and tarts.  The groomswoman made super cute cupcakes with fondant toppers depicting the characters from Alice in Wonderland.

Daughter putting the final touches on everything.

Obligatory party games.  Two teams used toilet paper to create "Wedding" dresses and the bride had to pick a winning team.

Gorgeous floral bouquets from the local Safeway.

Thank you for joining me down the rabbit hole.

Summer Salt and Pepper

I have been looking for plastic salt and pepper shakers to take outside with my Captain America melamine plates and accessories.  I can't find any anywhere.  So I came up with a second option.  Husband had purchased these pre-filled ones at Target.
I pulled out some scrapbook paper scraps, cut them to size and used my tape runner to glue them on.

I decided to tie the jute around them to make sure the paper stays well stuck down.

That's all for now!
Thanks for stopping by,

Cute Little Cakes

I went to Joann Crafts the other day to buy some new cake pans as I was in a baking mood.  I wanted two  six inch diameter by three inch deep pans.  They didn't have two that weren't dented.
Instead, I bought a little box that had four mini cake pans in it.  They each have an impression in the center.

After you bake the cakes, you fill the center and then put them together so the filling is inside.

I used devil's food cake mix.  Then I cut the tops off so they'd be level and then removed from the pans. I filled the centers with chocolate mousse.

Then of course I frosted with chocolate frosting.

One cake mix fills the four pans twice, so I froze four and made two cakes.

I wanted to show how cute and small they are so I put them next to the Coke can.  I figured everyone knows the size of a Coke can.  However, my Facebook friends kidded me for drinking a diet Coke with triple chocolate cake.  Silly people.

We actually divided each cake into thirds.  Perfect!

Picnic Brunch Tablescape

Welcome to a picnic in the backyard. I've been wanting to do a picnic, but life seems to be preventing us from getting away. It was best just to go ahead and have some fun at home.
I'm linking with Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for her 100th Tablescape Thursday. Congratulations, Susan. I've met so many great people through TT and seen a lot of great ideas. Thank you!

I made scones from scratch (recipe here) and decided on blueberries and raspberries and bosc pears. These are all native to some part of California. It's lovely to live in a state where so much is produced. However, the pictures don't tell that it was already 85 degrees F outside. Hopefully it won't reach 104 like last weekend.

I placed an antique quilt on the lawn, piled several pillows and laid out the picnic goodies. That's chilled lemon water in the carafe from Princess House (about 25 years old!).

I purchased the silver candlestick at a "garage sale" in Stockton about a month ago. The garage sale seemed more like a boutique sale of items you'd see in the after pictures of home blogs: painted furniture, stacks of linens, a little chandelier. High priced items for a bargain hunter.

This is the picnic basket and it's contents: 2 knives, 2 spoons, 2 forks, 2 Martha Stewart napkins, 2 plastic plates, and 2 plastic bowls. (It's for sale if anyone is interested)

Thank you for stopping by and having a picnic under the orange tree with me. Thats the grape arbor next to it. Red Flame and Thompson's seedless.
Enjoy the day.

Mickey Mouse Barbeque!

I love Tablescape Thursday! I'm joining Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for a bunch of summer table fun. Be sure to check out the other great tables here.

I know everyone is working hard to celebrate the Fourth of July with their tablescapes. However, since I did a Memorial Day table in Red, White and Blue, I decided to do a picnic outside before the weather got too hot. My guest of honor for this table is Mickey Mouse!
We bought these plates, bowls, corn cob holders, and plasticware two summers ago on clearance at the Disney Store. Daughter was working there at the time.
The blue napkins are current Walmart, 2 for $2. The cups are Dollar Tree, but they were out when I went to replace the one that broke. And we have two stores! The plaid tablecloth and napkins are Target from about 5 years ago.

The corn cob holders are in 4 different designs; florals and stripes and plaids.

The long shot shows a little more of the covered patio. It is at the back of the small lot the house stands on. I decided to go all white and purple with the flowers this year. They don't offer too much variety in our Home Depot so I think next year I will have to buy seeds and start from "scratch".
Thanks for stopping by and joining me and Mickey for a BBQ!
